Fixing Firefox Crash

Firefox History Freeze

This solution will show you how to delete the history file so that when you click on Firefox History in the title bar the Firefox freeze will be eliminated. This is for Firefox 2.0. I don't know how it will work on Firefox 1.0 or Firefox 3.0. I assume it will be the same.

1. Go to C:\Documents and Settings\ then find the name of the main computer user. "Dad," "John," or whoever is the owner. If this folder doesn't show up under Windows Explorer or My Computer please click on Tools> Folder Options...> View> and make sure you Show hidden files and folders and uncheck where it says hide extensions for known file types and hide protected operation system files. You'll probably want to change these back when you've finished.

2. Inside that folder, go to \Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\gpag1wkr.default. That should be a folder in which you'll find a few other folders, but also some files. (This is how it is on Windows XP. Vista might be a bit different, but should be very similar).

3. Find the file named "history."

4. Make sure Firefox is closed. Then, rename the file "history" to "HistoryBACKUP.dat" This way you can change it back

5. Restart Firefox. It will create a new file named "history" and the Firefox freeze problem will be gone.

6. Repeat as necessary. I would say you have to do it every few months, depending how your history settings are and how much you surf the web.

Hope that helps! If so, please leave me a comment below. If not, Google can help you find more solutions!
